Harmful subsidies increase overfishing and jeopardize the livelihoods of millions of people. Though the EC financial instruments eliminated harmful subsidies during my mandate, some EU member states continue subsidising overcapacity, even using fossil fuels. Let’s hope that WTO, under the leadership of a great woman, can reach a powerful agreement this year.
