Harmful fisheries subsidies are one of the most pressing causes of overfishing globally. Yet this critical issue is scarcely understood by regular citizens, who have no idea that their taxpayer money may be funding overexploitation of our ocean. We must make this issue visible and ensure citizens hold their governments accountable. It is critical that our governments reach a subsidies agreement this year.
