Stop Funding Overfishing Coalition Delivers Statement to WTO Director-General

As Fish Week begins at the WTO, today, members of the Stop Funding Overfishing coalition delivered a statement to Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala calling for a meaningful agreement to end harmful fisheries subsidies.

This statement, signed by 182 organizations, demonstrates global civil society support for a deal and urges trade ministers to deliver on their mandate at MC12 by establishing a binding framework to end the subsidies that drive overfishing.

After more than 20 years of negotiations, an agreement is on the table and by working together, WTO members can achieve SDG 14.6, protect our ocean, and safeguard the livelihoods that depend on it.

Trade ministers, at MC12 it is time to #StopFundingOverfishing.
